Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva - Chime In!

In my honest opinion, this is a no-brainer. Silva posseses superior standup, is a more seasoned fighter and has already defeated fighters that Sonnen has lost to. Silva is simply to long and tall for Sonnen. Sonnen has heart and talks, but can he back it up.

I don't think he can. We all know that anybody can win at any time. All it takes is one little mistake, but Silva hasn't made that mistake yet. He's fought better fighters than Sonnen and done it with ease. He's even gotten bored and started show-boating to entertain himself. Which, I have to admit, does aggravate me a little.

I'm sorry to say, Sonnen doesn't get my vote. I expect that Sonnen will charge in, which will be a big mistake. Silva is going to look for his traditional laid back keep you back stance and Muy Thai style. He's gonna work his legs and fell out Sonnen. If Sonnen charges like a bull, he's gonna hit a brick wall of knees and dirty boxing.

What are your thoughts? Break it down...

  1. Dude you and i are on the same page pretty much every time when it comes to fighters. Silva will once again show all us in the MMA world why he is one of the greatest fighters pound for pound in the world. 185 and 205 pound class he destroys. Striking, take down defense, clinch, ground and pound, submissions, you name it he has it.

  2. Matty,

I could not agree more. Anderson is truly the spider. His arms and legs reach far and wide. Bottom line, he destroys and dominates. His style and skill is unmatched in his class. His Muy Thai style stance and style allow him to keep his opponents at a distance. He uses his long legs to break his opponents down. He either takes their legs out with low leg kicks, or he drops 'em with head kicks. He's fast and devastating.

I won't flame Sonnen, but he is, in my opinion, he's simply no match for the spider. Anderson Silva runs through opponents like they're made of tape. He's a seasoned veteran of the sport. His stand up is unmatched. He fights for Team Nog, so he's no rookie when it comes to the ground game.

In my opinion, Sonnen will become yet another notch in The Spiders belt.

  3. Anderson Silva is the only guy that made me laugh in amazement, shake my head in utter disbelief, rewind the tape and watch the same combo three or four times and just straight giggle at what I was watching. I'm talking specifically about his match with Forrest Griffin. I think Sonnen is going to get shut down in the same fashion and realize what it means to take a step into the true elite class of fighter.

  5. The most likely outcome is that Sonnen takes down Anderson and Anderson attacks Sonnen's weak submission defense and gets a submission win.

  6. I listend to Sonnen talk shit about Anderson again last night and i couldnt stop laughin again. I know its ok to get into your opponents head but Sonnen is just straight out spitting shit. He accutly thinks he will beat Anderson. I find that so damn funny. Thats like me saying ill mop the canvas with a Spider. Even i know better and i got some skills. Well while i have the thought of Sonnen getting his ass kicked im going to chase the garbage man down the road cause he always throws my shit all over my yard. peace im out!

  7. GSP is still the best fighter in MMA.

  8. Drew,

I am also a huge GSP fan. My man is simply incredible. Not only is he devastating in the octagon, but he was Canada's athlete of the year for 2009. That's quite an accomplishment considering not everyone conciders MMA a sport (meaning the general public).

Technically Anderson Silva is ranked pound for pound a better fighter, but I think it comes down to personal perference. They are both in a class of their own. A real throw down would be to pit them against each other and see who comes out on top. Given the weight difference, I doubt that will ever happen. Although I think Anderson Silva could drop a fair amount of weight if he really wanted to.

Silva has proven he can bang with the big boys, but it's the lighter weight classes that really bring the heat. The 145 and 155 pounders are not stop action. The cardio and stamina of these smaller fighters is absolutely amazing. Many of them don't have the one shot knock out power of the bigger fighters, but they rattle each other's cage round after round and never seem to lose steam.

GSP is a far classier fighter. Very humble and respectful type of person. Silva on the other hand loves to flaunt his talent. I sometimes get aggrevated with his behavior, but there is no doubt he can back up his game.

  9. Matt,

Sonnen reminds me of Dan Hardy. Talks a lot of game, but we'll see if he has the skill to back it up. We both feel he doesn't. Just like Hardy and GSP, Hardy got a real dose or reality when GSP toyed with him. I personally thing that is more or less what he did. That fight could have ended earlier if GSP so desired.

Remember season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter? Rampage and Evans were always talking game and trying to get into each others head. There is however a fine line. Talk the talk, but you had better be able to handle the spider or you just look like a punk. So you're a tough guy, fine! This isn't the bush leagues, Anderson Silva is gonna mop the floor with this kid and his mouth.

I personally haven't had the opportunity to listen to him run his mouth. If you have links to video clips, post them so we can all enjoy a good laugh.
